Fast, agile and exclusive: made for the spontaneous day trip
A RIB (rigid inflatable boat) or inflatable with an outboard engine is the most flexible way to explore the coastline. No licence needed (depending on engine power), with access to shallow bays that larger boats cannot reach.
RIBs and Inflatable Boats: The Fast Day Tripper
RIBs (rigid inflatable boats) combine a rigid fibreglass hull with inflatable side chambers, making them stable, light and robust. Typical charter RIBs are 5–8 metres long and fitted with 40–150 hp outboard motors. In calm weather they reach speeds of 35–50 knots.
What Are RIBs Good For?
RIBs are ideal for day trips from a fixed base. If you spend a week in a marina and want to explore the area by RIB every day, a rented inflatable is ideal. RIBs reach very shallow bays, can run up onto sandy beaches and get you there quickly. Especially popular for snorkelling trips, picnics on secluded beaches and as tenders for larger yachts.
In some holiday regions, particularly Greece and Croatia, small outboard boats (up to 30 hp) are rented out without a licence. These are perfect for relaxed beach-hopping. For more powerful engines, a boat licence is required (in Germany: Sportbootführerschein Binnen or See).
Prices and Booking
RIBs are usually chartered by the day or by the hour, not by the week. Daily rates range from €80 to €500 depending on size, engine power and region. Fuel is generally paid separately. Many beach bars and rental stations in tourist centres offer spontaneous rental without advance booking.

Charter FAQ – RIB
Do I need a licence for a RIB?
That depends on engine power. In Greece and Croatia, boats up to approx. 30–50 hp (depending on local rules) can be rented without a licence. A boat licence is required for more powerful engines. The rental station will inform you precisely.
Can I rent a RIB on the spur of the moment on the Croatian coast?
Yes, in practically every tourist town along the Adriatic there are boat rental stations that rent small RIBs and motorboats spontaneously and without advance booking. Price, licence requirements and range limits vary by provider.
Is a RIB safe for children?
In calm water, RIBs are safe. Children should always wear life jackets. In waves or wind, trips with children should be limited to sheltered bays and calm waters.
