Sailing from Split – Gateway to the Dalmatian Islands

Split is not only Croatia's second-largest city but also the most important charter hub on the Adriatic. ACI Marina Split lies right by the city centre, only a few minutes' walk from the UNESCO-listed Diocletian's Palace. The approach is striking: medieval walls, quays and the bustle of a genuine working port.

Exploring the Dalmatian Islands

The cruising area around Split is regarded as one of the world's finest sailing grounds. The island of Brač, home to the famous Zlatni Rat beach, is only two hours away. Hvar, known for its lavender fields and lively waterfront promenade, is another essential stop. Remote Vis stands out for the Blue Cave near Biševo and the authentic fishing village of Komiža.

Šolta offers quiet anchorages and local konobas, where you can enjoy fresh fish and home-made wine. If you want to sail further south, head for the Kornati – a national park with more than 140 islands, reefs and skerries.

Practical Information for Charterers

The charter season in Split runs from May to October. July and August are particularly popular, so book early. The Meltemi can freshen considerably in summer; experienced sailors appreciate the lively conditions, beginners are better off in early summer. Saturday is the traditional changeover day at ACI Marina Split.
