Dubrovnik

Croatia · Adriatic

Dubrovnik's iconic walled Old Town, viewed from the water, is one of the most dramatic sights in the entire Mediterranean — a fitting starting point for exploring Southern Dalmatia.

Sailing from Dubrovnik – South Dalmatia and Montenegro

Dubrovnik is one of the best-known destinations on the Adriatic. Its walled Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, rises majestically above the deep blue sea. Setting off from Marina Dubrovnik, you are immediately in one of the most appealing cruising grounds on the Adriatic. The city is a cultural highlight in its own right, and also the perfect starting point for trips to South Dalmatia and Montenegro.

The Elaphiti Islands

Only a few nautical miles north-west of Dubrovnik lie the Elaphiti Islands: Šipan, Lopud and Koločep. These largely car-free islands are known for their lush vegetation, historic summer villas and crystal-clear anchorages. Šipan is the largest of the three and has two villages with charming konobas (family-run taverns).

Mljet National Park, around 40 nautical miles away, is an absolute must: salt-water lakes, dense pine forests and a Benedictine monastery on a small island within an island characterise this unique nature reserve.

Crossing the Border into Montenegro

If you are looking for an international adventure, sail from Dubrovnik into the Bay of Kotor. The Montenegrin fjord landscape impresses with dramatic mountains and picturesque towns such as Perast and the Old Town of Kotor. Clearing in is straightforward and well worth the effort.

FAQ

Questions about Dubrovnik

Can you sail from Dubrovnik to Montenegro?

Yes, the Bay of Kotor is about 30 nautical miles from Dubrovnik. You need valid ship's papers and must clear in at Herceg Novi or Zelenika. Most charter contracts permit departure to Montenegro.

Is there parking at the harbour for arrival by car?

Marina Dubrovnik has limited parking. Because of the high volume of tourists, we recommend arriving by taxi or rental car; long-stay car parks are available on the outskirts of the city with a shuttle service.

How far is Dubrovnik from Split?

Dubrovnik lies about 120 nautical miles south of Split. A multi-day route in stages, with stops on Hvar, Korčula and the Elaphiti Islands, is highly recommended.
