Ibiza

Spain · Western Mediterranean

Ibiza offers two very different faces: the world-famous nightlife of the south, and the quiet, pine-covered coves of the north — plus Formentera just 25 minutes away.

Ibiza – Glamour, Culture and Sailing

Ibiza is far more than party tourism: the old town of Dalt Vila is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1999), the coast has over 50 calas (coves), and the passage to Formentera is one of the finest short sails in the Mediterranean. Marina Botafoch lies right at the foot of the illuminated fortress town, a unique harbour setting.

Formentera – The Caribbean Jewel

Only 8 nautical miles south of Ibiza lies Formentera, one of the last unspoilt islands of the Balearics. The turquoise, transparent water of Platja de Ses Illetes is of Caribbean quality; the seabed is covered with Posidonia seagrass, which cleans and clears the water. Anchoring off Formentera is a dream, but the protected areas must be respected.

Ibiza's west coast has picturesque bays such as Cala Bassa, Cala Conta and Cala Vadella, ideal for anchoring and swimming. In the north lies the quieter Portinatx, far from the high-summer bustle.

Nightlife and Food

Ibiza Town (Eivissa) has one of the most exciting dining scenes in the Mediterranean. Marina restaurants, rooftop bars and the world-famous clubs Pacha and Amnesia are all close to the harbour. Nightlife lovers are in the right place; those seeking peace anchor on the south coast or at Formentera.

FAQ

Questions about Ibiza

How far is Formentera from Ibiza?

Formentera lies only 8 nautical miles south of Ibiza, a sailing passage of 1.5 to 2 hours in moderate wind. It is one of the most beautiful short sailing trips in the Mediterranean.

Are the anchorages in Formentera free of charge?

Many bays in Formentera are protected areas (Posidonia seagrass meadows). Anchoring is prohibited in certain zones; instead there are mooring buoy systems, for which a fee is payable.

When is the best time to visit Ibiza without the crowds?

May and September are ideal: the water is warm, the weather settled and there are far fewer tourists. June is a good compromise. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months.
