Bareboat Charter: The Step-by-Step Guide
1. Booking
6–12 months ahead for peak season, deposit usually 30–50% at booking, balance due 4–8 weeks before charter start.
2. Before Departure
Prepare the appropriate license documentation and crew list — see our guide to sailing licenses.
3. Check-In and Handover
Usually Saturday afternoon: briefing by the base, joint walkthrough with inventory list, technical introduction to the engine, rig and safety equipment.
4. On Board
The first night is usually spent in the harbor or a nearby anchorage, then the planned route. Daily weather checks are essential.
5. Return
Typically Saturday morning, after refueling. A joint inventory check determines the deposit refund.
