Insurance in Yacht Charter Explained
Hull Insurance
Covers damage to the boat itself, standard with reputable charter operators, though usually with a deductible (see deposit).
Liability Insurance
Covers damage to third parties (other boats, marina facilities) and is also standard in the charter contract.
Reducing the Deductible
Many operators offer a damage waiver for an extra fee that reduces the deductible — often worthwhile on larger yachts with correspondingly high deposits.
Additional Coverage
You should separately arrange trip cancellation insurance and overseas health insurance yourself, as these aren't included in the charter contract.
Frequently asked questions
Is a deductible waiver worth it?
For larger, more expensive yachts with a correspondingly high deposit, yes — it significantly reduces the risk of losing the full deposit over a minor incident.
