Provisioning: How to Nail the Pre-Charter Grocery Run
Use Pre-Ordering
Many charter bases offer a provisioning service: submit your shopping list online in advance, and the groceries are already on board at handover — saving the first afternoon at the supermarket.
Quantity Planning
As a rule of thumb: 1.5–2 liters of drinking water per person per day in addition to the onboard tank, plus enough shelf-stable staples for the first 2–3 days, since supermarkets aren't available in every harbor.
Mind the Storage Space
Avoid glass bottles (breakage risk, weight) — use canned or plastic drinks instead. Coordinate fridge capacity with the crew in advance.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just do the shopping once I arrive?
In larger marinas with a nearby supermarket that's possible, but it costs valuable time on your first vacation day — a pre-order service is usually the more relaxed option.
